Miscellaneous Costume Construction
18th century Corset
All corsets have a double layer of fabric acting as the bone casings. The only difference besides the size and fabric is that the white and green corsets were made with steel bones and the colorful corset was made with spiral steel bones. I cut and completely constructed all 3 corsets. I also cut and tipped all of the bones to the correct size. I patterned the green corset from the book "Corsets and Crinolines" by Norah Waugh.
19th century Corset
For this corset, I enlarged the pattern from a book and after making a mock up and fitting it to myself, I adjusted the pattern accordingly. This corset has a single layer of fabric with individual bone casings. The bones are spiral steel and there is also a center front busk.
Pocket Hoops
I enlarged the pattern for the pocket hoops from a book and then cut and constructed them. They are flatlined with muslin and I also cut and tipped the hoop wire.
18th century Dress
I designed this dress keeping the correct shape of the time period in mind. I knew that my model had blue hair so I decided to have some fun and make this dress very colorful. In theatre, this would be intended for a children's show. The bodice opens up on the right side of the stomacher and the underskirt is made with herringbone pleats. I draped and completely constructed this entire garment.
